Actor Suriya has lifted the curtain on what might be one of the most ambitious and emotionally charged sequences of his career — a 15-minute single shot from his upcoming film Retro. Calling it a scene "very close to me," Suriya shared that the one-take sequence is a masterclass in cinematic choreography, emotion, and chaos.
“In that one shot, we dance, we fight, we argue… so many things happen,” Suriya revealed with palpable excitement. “The entire cast had to be perfectly in sync. The camera doesn’t cut — it travels from ground level to the first floor, to the balcony, swings right, swoops left, dives into the basement… it’s madness, but beautiful madness.”
He added that the scene isn’t just technically impressive — it’s packed with emotional weight, capturing the core of what Retro is all about. And in a delightful twist, the actor cheekily pointed out that even the film’s director Karthik Subbaraj gets in on the action. “We even have a debutante dancer here,” Suriya joked, nodding to Subbaraj, whose spontaneous involvement adds to the scene’s charm.
Retro, a romantic action drama, is written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj and produced by Stone Bench Creations in collaboration with Suriya’s own 2D Entertainment. The film stars Suriya opposite Pooja Hegde, and features music by Santhosh Narayanan, with cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna and editing by Shafique Mohamed Ali.
With its high-octane technical wizardry and deeply human storytelling, Retro is shaping up to be one of 2025’s most talked-about releases. The film hits theatres worldwide on May 1, 2025, in both standard and EPIQ formats.
